Charleston Illustrated Map
Published in Map by Morris+Bailey (06 March, 2000)
Average review score:

Great Map and DocumentationI have lived here for 9 years and this is the first map that does this wonderful city justice (besides the historical maps!). While it does not look like the 'old Charleston' maps of the Civil War, it has everything any tourist, resident, or map enthusiast must have. If your visiting Charleston, bring it along as a up-to-date guide to the city. If your a resident, this is actually a contemporary map that is perfect for a wall in your office or home. If your a map enthusiest, take notes on what Morris and Bailey have done to put the Holy City on the map!
A useful work of art for anyone who loves CharlestonHaving grown up in Charleston, I looked at this map first to find the details of the places I knew best. It was almost shocking to find the dormer window of my old bedroom in the upstairs half of the house we rented on South Battery St. Details like this make this map amazing, and the map is filled with them. Hidden gardens, oddly shaped roofs, tiny carriage houses are all revealed in stunning detail. For anyone who loves Charleston, this map is a work that reveals her beauty through the details. For anyone just getting to know the city, it will give you insight to hidden treasures that even locals would normally miss. The overall presentation of the map is first rate. Even the package (a clever heavy paper sleeve that opens like a book) is thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed. I strongly recommend this map to anyone who is visiting Charleston, or to anyone who lives there and loves the city.

Cochise County Stalwarts : A Who's Who of the Territorial Years (2 Vols)
Published in Paperback by Westernlore Pr (10 January, 2000)
Average review score:

FinallyI bought volume 1 while in Tombstone last January. Unfortunately #2 wasn't available. I am finally purchasing #2 via Amazon. They are a fountain of information that strike to the core of many of these "stalwarts". The 1st was a valuable aid in my historical/genealogical research and I know the 2nd will be even better!!!
Great resource, great browsing"Cochise County Stalwarts" is a compilation of biographical essays about hundreds of the men and women who lived (and sometimes died) in or near Tombstone, Arizona, back in the days of the "Wild West". Some names are familiar to anyone versed in Western history: Wyatt Earp, Johnny Ringo, and Buckskin Frank Leslie. But most of the people profiled in the book would come under the heading of "ordinary citizens", even if sometimes they led rather extraordinary lives. This is a book which provides a wealth of background information behind the famous story of the "Gunfight at the OK Corral" (of course, it really wasn't at the OK Corral, but "Gunfight in the empty lot down the street" just doesn't have the same ring to it), but is also highly enjoyable to browse through, learning about the fascinating people history usually does not mention.

A Dead Man's Honor
Published in Paperback by Overmountain Press (October, 2001)
Average review score:

The second in in what I hope to be a long series of books!I enjoyed this book tremendously. Ms. Bailey does such a wonderful job describing, not only the global atmosphere but also the little nuances. Her characters are drawn with broad strokes and they truly grow on you. It's fascinating how slowly she's developing the relationship between the Chief and Lizzie. I'm such an impatient person, but I find myself savoring the build-up of two people getting to know each other. I hope they've covered much more ground, however, if and when the next installment is published. I truly hope there is another book, because it is original and fresh - truly entertaining.
Dear Man's HonorMs Bailey has written an outstanding, well paced mystery. I look forward to her next installment of Lizzie Stuart.

Comforting, Knowledgeable and PracticalThis thoughtfully written information guide gave confidence in an otherwise unsettling time. Often people are conflicted by wishes of the recently deceased and the long ago dead. This helpful book touches on rituals and rights of all faiths. Things that are thought taboo and myths thought to be true, the writer's years of research explain clearly. The fact is we all need this book. There are inevitable choices we are all "given" the chance to make; this book can prepare you to feel confident when making them.

Eco-Scam: The False Prophets of Ecological Apocalypse
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (February, 1993)
Average review score:

Great book, tells it like it is!the book is great, the author debunks the eco-doomsters' prophecies of imminent catastrophy by citing a historical view of the Eco-doomsters' theories. They have been found wrong every time!, yet remain unrepentant and unapologetic. A necessary book to moderate the debate on Envrironmentalism.Next time a greeno says Greenhouse, you'll say Greenhoax Effect! Buy it now! and save youself from the Eco-Doomsters.
Incisive and ThoroughA thorough expose of the prevalant science-by-press-release methods of the environmental movement. By illustrating how past environmental claims of doom have failed to occur and how past scientific "findings" have turned out false once examined by scientific contemporaries Ronald Bailey casts serious doubts on the predictions of the environmental movement today. The author also exposes the biases of the media and their tendancy to sermonize on environmental issues rather than objective presentation of the facts. A must-read book for anyone who has wondered whether the popular apocalyptic prophesies have good scientific backing or not.

Enchanter (Infocom, No 3)
Published in Paperback by Avon (May, 1989)
Average review score:

Simplistic, but EntertainingI picked up this up when sorting through the fantasy section of my local used bookstore, and am very happy that I did so.
This book follows an interesting cast of characters (Including two adolescent boys, a dryad, and a very flamboyant dragon) in their adventure to rid the world of 'The Great Terror'. While the plot may seem slightly cliché, the author manages to spice the story up with a very unique style of humour that succesfully spoofs the fantasy genre.
Length-wise, it's a bit short, but that doesn't bother me much, as the pacing was exceptionally written (ie, the characters didn't stay too long in a certain location)
I highly reccommend this novel to anyone who wishes a light read, or who needs a break from the typical 'angst' filled fantasy of today.
A wonderful, fun read for lovers of fantasy humor!Robin Wayne Bailey, as usual, succeeds in putting wonderful humanistic satire into the setting of a familiar fantasy world for those computer buffs who loved the world of Zork so many years ago. One cannot help but laugh at protagonist Anesi (deemed by every new person he meets as "uneasy," which drives him over the edge after so many misinterpretations). In addition, there is entertaining use of many of the items from the old Zork games, particularly spells and potions. The story line itself might be a bit trite, a bumbling novice enchanter who has untapped hidden powers he discovers in the course of his quests, but the action never stops, and I found myself laughing at every twist the little adventuring group gets themselves into. A recommended read!

Engineering the Farm: The Social and Ethical Aspects of Agricultural Biotechnology
Published in Paperback by Island Press (15 June, 2002)
Average review score:

Engaging & InformativeWhen it comes to topics like bioengineering, a lot of people publish theses and dissertations or they rant on in a political diatribe. Bailey is the rare exception who knows what she's talking about and makes it interesting. It's a refreshing surprise to come across a writer who has not only the scholarly credentials to do the work, but has the life experiences to draw upon to bring the points home. This is like reading a good novel except the characters are real, the planet is ours and the facts are astounding. This book will keep you not only informed and educated on the subject but it will entertain you as well. Now that's the kind of book we all enjoy reading.
A terrific follow-up to "Against the Grain"...."Engineering the Farm" is a must-read for anyone who eats...like "Against the Grain" (Lappe & Bailey's first book on the issue), "Engineering" explores the issue of agricultural biotechnology. In this book, Bailey & Lappe turn to a dozen or so other experts, each of whom provides a unique perspective on the impact of biotechnology on our lives--physical, environmental, social, ethical, and even spiritual effects which are too often ignored. Pick one up (and then pass it along!)

Epigrams (Loeb Classical Library, No 480)
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (December, 1993)
Average review score:

Better than Loeb 94Everything said in my review of the first 6 books in Loeb's Martial I No 94) is true with greater force here. Book XI is the peak of the poet's nasty, often obscene, humor. Again, the 1993 translation is much more timely than the previous Ker edition by Loeb in the first part of the century. Reading this shows that in spite of almost 2000 intervening years, the crudest elements of decadent societies still run closely parallel. Read it, you'll be amazed.
Very funnyThese short poems are laugh out loud funny. This is a very readable translation. Forget that these are considered "classics." There is nothing stuffy about these ribald, sarcastic, hilarious poems about Roman life. It is amazing how little people have changed! I spent a very enjoyable afternoon reading through these.

Esoteric Psychology 1: A Treatise on the Seven Rays, Vol. 1
Published in Hardcover by Lucis Publishing Company (June, 1979)
Average review score:

Esoteric Psychology, Vol. I & III was studying Esoteric Psychology by Alice Bailey at the same time that I was studying Psychology at university. An interesting experience, indeed, since the spiritual aspect of the human being came into play thanks to the esoteric view of man's makeup. Man, as part of the universe, comes into play with Esoteric Psychology, a place in the scheme of creation, which traditional psychology ignores. Knowledge of the fundamentals of man's psychology is expressed in Vol. I. The various universal laws are clearly explained in Vol. II. Read one; read them both. They complement one another. The reading of these volumes has introduced me to myself as a member of the Universal Body. I am not a pebble, I am part of the whole...just as we all are.
Can easily be choosed as a 1st book to read from A.A.B.A whole book in itself, practical. Yet encourages to read a lot more of the Author's Litterature.
